Since his retirement as Director of Finance and Estates at the University of London at the end of 2012 Richard has served in a number of roles in a voluntary capacity including as trustee and treasurer of Amnesty International UK, as a governor of Worcester College of Technology and as a member of the finance committee of Mencap.  He is currently a non-executive director of Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, trustee and treasurer of Aspire Living (a charity providing services to people in Herefordshire with learning disabilities) and a member of the audit committee of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Prior to retiring Richard worked as a director of finance in higher education for some 13 years and before that he spent over 20 years working in the financial services sector in the City of London.
