"At dinner mum gives all the food to me and my brother. I tried to share with her but she said she isn’t hungry.”

Children locked in poverty are living without the basics. They are missing out on meals, sharing beds with their siblings, sleeping in bedrooms with damp walls, wearing clothes that don’t fit them. It’s heartbreaking to know there are over 4 million children in the UK living like this.

Even before this pandemic, vulnerable families were finding it hard to pay for essentials. Now many have lost their jobs and have been pushed deeper into crisis.

Vera works with many of these families and knows first-hand the devastating effect poverty has on children.

“I work with so many families who have recently lost their jobs and now they are just doing their best to make ends meet. They are struggling to put food on the table, pay the bills, buy clothes for their children. Being able to look after your children as a parent is your number one priority and they’re terrified of what the future holds.”

In the last few months, Vera and many other frontline workers have been a vital lifeline for these families, helping them pay for everyday essentials and supporting nearly 10,000 children and young people.

While life may be slowly getting back to normal, this ongoing crisis continues to have a huge impact on the most vulnerable families and children. And they desperately need your help.

Your donation could help a family facing crisis to get support from an experienced family support worker.
